Did you know that BWS can complete medical referrals for any type of disease including postpartum depression?
With the recent cases of suicide in the news, it’s easy to forget that any form of depression is an invisible killer. We begin to wonder what the signs are, how we attack them, and where can we find help?
Suicide is the 10th leading cause of death in the United States (afsp.org). Although there is no set number on how many of those deaths are from postpartum, the CDC indicates that of the 4 million live births that happen each year, 600,000 new moms develop this unseen disease.
This number is reportedly higher than the number of women that are diagnosed with breast cancer, cervical cancer, and stroke combined (checkpregnancy.com).
Postpartum depression is a mood disorder that is typically seen in women after childbirth. Often times, postpartum is seen by others as a mother not doing her job correctly.
This is not the case. The hormonal levels begin to shift and become unbalanced causing the new mother to have mood swings.
