Commending Single Fathers

June 16, 2018 by Leslie Shaeffer

“Any man can be a Father, but it takes someone special to be a Dad.” -Anne Geddes

7am wake up calls for school
Doing the laundry
Packing lunches
Brushing and braiding hair
Cooking dinner
Helping with homework
Finishing their work

These are just some of the tasks that you would think moms have to do. Often times we forget that it’s not only single mothers, but single fathers as well. This Father’s Day, we commend the single fathers that have not given up, have not left their child(ren)’s side, and continue to fight for their little ones.

As of 2013, there are reportedly 2.0 million single fathers in the United States. Those fathers are struggling everyday to make ends meet for their little ones. (fatherhood.gov)

At BWS, we can help make some of those ends meet with supplying father’s with material needs for their tiny humans, medical needs, or for when they just need advice on how to properly take care of their child. There is never any harm in asking a question!

Check out this dad as he receives the father of the year award for taking his little girl on her first date!

Postpartum: The Invisible Disease of New Mothers

June 12, 2018 by Leslie Shaeffer

Did you know that BWS can complete medical referrals for any type of disease including postpartum depression?

With the recent cases of suicide in the news, it’s easy to forget that any form of depression is an invisible killer. We begin to wonder what the signs are, how we attack them, and where can we find help?

Suicide is the 10th leading cause of death in the United States (afsp.org). Although there is no set number on how many of those deaths are from postpartum, the CDC indicates that of the 4 million live births that happen each year, 600,000 new moms develop this unseen disease.

This number is reportedly higher than the number of women that are diagnosed with breast cancer, cervical cancer, and stroke combined (checkpregnancy.com).

Postpartum depression is a mood disorder that is typically seen in women after childbirth. Often times, postpartum is seen by others as a mother not doing her job correctly.

This is not the case. The hormonal levels begin to shift and become unbalanced causing the new mother to have mood swings.

If you or someone you know experience any of the symptoms below after having a baby, BWS is able to help you and your family find the appropriate medical care for a bright and healthy future with your new tiny human!

If you are unable to make it to our facility, please give us a call at 814-734-4237.

Remember, you are not alone!
There are a great deal of individuals ready to listen and help you with your journey!
